How do we decide on trustworthy images?
Photography has traditionally carried a powerful claim on reality: something happened, and a human was there to photograph it.
From election campaigns and conflicts to breaking news, images shape our understanding of political events.
However, generative AI, deepfakes and manipulated content make it increasingly difficult to distinguish documentation from fabrication – and not just in the political world.
How do we decide on trustworthy images and how do we counter the constant exposure to unreliable images leading to either accepting information too readily or distrusting everything?
This is a panel discussion featuring expert speakers, with an opportunity for audience questions. The session will begin at 5.30pm but we strongly suggest arriving at the Parliament by 4.45pm – this will allow you enough time to browse the World Press Photo Exhibition before we start.
