Can a news image shift perspectives and change views?
A picture is worth a thousand words – whether it’s the Harry Benson still of Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination or the rioters storming the US Capitol in 2021.
What makes a memorable news image so powerful that it achieves a global shorthand and conveys emotions, detail and context about an event? And who ultimately decides what makes a classic news image: the photographer, editor, politician, platform or viewer? Can a news image shift perspectives and change views?
This is a panel discussion featuring expert speakers, with an opportunity for audience questions. The session will begin at 5.30pm but we strongly suggest arriving at the Parliament by 4.45pm – this will allow you enough time to browse the World Press Photo Exhibition before we start.
